05 May, 2010

Hosting / anchoring a talk show on the importance of the co-existence of traditional and modern retail formats inside Indian shopping malls at the India Shopping Centre Forum 2010 in Mumbai, Asipac Chairman Amit Bagaria's anchring skills were compared with India's most popular TV anchor - Barkha Dutt.

Participants in the talk show included BS Nagesh (Vice Chairman, Shoppers Stop), Kishore Bhatija (CEO, InOrbit Malls), Manoj Motta (COO, SCAI), Gaurav Mahajan (COO, Westside), Pranay Sinha (MD, Star Centres), M.Balasubramaniam (Director, Spencer Plaza Chennai), Ankur Savla (Director, Benzer), Dr.Sumas Wongsunopparat (Head of Strategy, Central Pattana, Thailand), P.Subramaniam (Head Marketing, RMKV), Rajiv Kalwani (Head - New Store Opening, Reliance Trends) and Shabnam Singhal (Director, Sirius Design & Events).

After a lot of interesting debate and discussions, there was a consensus that, in Indian shopping malls, traditional retailers such as Nallis, Pothys, RMKV, Benzer, Kapsons, Nathu Sweets and Haldirams needed to co-exist with modern organised retailers such as Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop, Westside, Reliance Trends, McDonald's and KFC.
